Just closed the box on my fifth guitar. This one is the most fun because I understand a lot of the procedures enough to not worry. Even though this one has a completely flat top, I was able to make an educated guess at how to trim the rim to get the neck to point in the right direction and it worked perfectly. Plus I had never done Pearloid on a fretboard before:

The name catgut is confusing. There are two explanations for the mix up.

Catgut is an abbreviation of the word cattle gut. Gut strings are made from sheep or goat intestines, in the past even from horse, mule or donkey intestines.

Otherwise it could be from the word kitgut or kitstring. Kit meant fiddle, not kitten.
